Correa Votes In Support Of Expanding Funding For Childcare, Renewable Energy, Opioid Crisis—Votes Against Border Wall

Washington, DC - Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA-46) released the following statement after the House passed the FY2020 Budget:

“As a Member of Congress, it is my job to pass our nation’s annual budget. As the body with the sole power of the purse, it is our constitutional duty to ensure our constituents’ tax dollars are used to better our nation in accordance with our values. This year’s budget includes numerous positive additions including, funding to combat the raging opioid crisis, historic funding for gun violence research, investing in renewable energy technology, the expansion of child care and community development grants and the permanent repeal of the Cadillac Tax and Medical Device Tax.

“While I am pleased to support many of the provisions in this year’s budget, I voted against funding the President unnecessary and ineffective border wall. President Trump’s wall wastes billions of taxpayer dollars and fails to address the real issues facing our southern border while hurting our economy and our immigrant communities. We must address our security concerns cooperatively with our Mexican allies because the only real border security that works is a safe and protected region. When our southern neighbors are strong and secure, our border is as well.”

BACKGROUND: This year’s budget was passed in two separate appropriation packages. Congressman Lou Correa voted in support of H.R. 1158 and voted against H.R. 1865 that included funding for the Trump Administration’s border wall.

Rep. Lou Correa represents California’s 46th Congressional District. He serves as Chair of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, and as the Vice-Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. Read more here.
